چکیده

Burkholderia pseudomallei, a Gram-negative soil saprophyte, is the causative agent of life-threatening melioidosis. B. pseudomallei from and water remains common source human animal infection via skin abrasions, ingestion or inhalation. Despite reported sero-prevalence in healthy individuals among Malaysian rice farmers, there are limited reports on isolated around country. In this study, we characterized isolate compared it to local clinical isolates. 16s rRNA sequencing was adopted confirm identity isolate, NC20. NC20 colony morphology, vitro growth rate antibiotic sensitivity were examined two isolates, UM6 D286. Virulence properties such as biofilm formation nematode host also examined. The exhibited distinguishable features comparable similar resistance profile Additionally, medium-level producer with levels D286, where amount produced much less relative UM6. Interestingly, weaker killing Caenorhabditis elegans model comparison between soil-derived isolates demonstrated that both shared certain phenotypic but somewhat virulent than used study.

Physicochemical Properties Influencing Presence of Burkholderia pseudomallei in Soil from Small Ruminant Farms in Peninsular Malaysia

Soil is considered to be a major reservoir of Burkholderia pseudomallei in the environment. This paper investigates soil physicochemical properties that may influence presence of B. pseudomallei in soil samples from small ruminant farms in Peninsular Malaysia. Soil samples were collected from the farms and cultured for B. pseudomallei. The texture, organic matter and water contents, pH, element...

Detection of virulence attributes of Burkholderia pseudomallei.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Melioidosis caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei is an emerging disease in India. This study examined the toxin activity of bacteria-free culture filtrate in three different cell lines (cytotoxic assay) and its effect on Caenorhabditis elegans (nematode toxicity assay). Endotoxic activity of the viable bacteria was also studied in C. elegans (co-culture killing assay). ...

Crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction analysis of BipD, a virulence factor from Burkholderia pseudomallei

Burkholderia pseudomallei, the causative agent of melioidosis, possesses a protein-secretion apparatus that is similar to those found in Salmonella and Shigella. A major function of these secretion systems is to secrete virulence-associated proteins into target cells of the host organism. The BipD gene of B. pseudomallei encodes a secreted virulence factor that is similar in sequence and most l...

Molecular Characterization of Putative Virulence Determinants in Burkholderia pseudomallei

The Gram-negative saprophyte Burkholderia pseudomallei is the causative agent of melioidosis, an infectious disease which is endemic in Southeast Asia and northern Australia. This bacterium possesses many virulence factors which are thought to contribute to its survival and pathogenicity. Using a virulent clinical isolate of B. pseudomallei and an attenuated strain of the same B. pseudomallei i...

Autotransporters and Their Role in the Virulence of Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia mallei

Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia mallei are closely related Gram-negative bacteria responsible for the infectious diseases melioidosis and glanders, respectively. Autotransporters (ATs) comprise a large and diverse family of secreted and outer membrane proteins that includes virulence-associated invasins, adhesins, proteases, and actin-nucleating factors. The B. pseudomallei K96243 ge...
